Displaying Out-dated, Broken Links

Posted on 23 March 2010

As I’m going through the archives of my former site, I’ve been wondering what I should do in regards to broken links. Rather than restore the archived content and leave the links intact, I’ve been going through and trying to make sure that they are still relevant but, if the links no longer point to a valid URL, how do I display that? What format should I use that is still semantically correct and can be used to denote an out-dated piece of information?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That’s a great question. My initial thought would be to try strikethrough to indicate broken links, but it depends on whether or not that’s a well-supported style tag.

I’d thought about that and it may be what I ultimately do. Thank you Adam, you are officially my first comment!
